EMI Music 週一於倫敦的特別活動中宣布，將針對全球的零售音樂啟動一項新的優惠下載專案，讓聽眾可取得比現有下載曲目音質更好的數位音樂，且沒有數位媒體版權管理 (digital rights management, DRM) 的限制，此外，Apple 的 iTunes Store 將會是第一家線上零售商店，提供了合法、音質佳及沒有 DRM 限制的音樂。

高音質且沒有 DRM 限制的音樂，其價格將會是 US$1.29/£0.99/€1.29；不過，iTunes 也將會繼續提供消費者以 US$0.99/£0.79/€0.99 的價格購買標準音質及採用 DRM 保護的曲目。

這則新聞緊接著 Apple 執行長 Steve Jobs 的公開信，在信中 Steve 談到四大音樂公司對數位音樂的要求，要 Apple 以數位媒體版權管理的技術保護 iTunes 售出的音樂。Steve 今天在倫敦的記者會提到，消費者應會喜歡多了此項選擇，並預期在年底前讓 iTunes 商店提供更多無 DRM 限制的歌曲。

We think our customers are going to love this, and we expect to offer more than half of the songs on iTunes in DRM-free versions by the end of this year.
